Benefits of a Capsule Wardrobe

Benefits of a capsule wardrobe

Of course, I’m biased, but I think capsule wardrobes are awesome. I’ve had mine for just over a year now, and I can’t imagine going back to my old ways of over stuffed wardrobes filled with clothes I’ll never wear, wasting money on outfits I’ll wear once or leave the tags on.

There are so many benefits to having a capsule wardrobe, but here are my top discoveries in the past year…

Saving money.

You will save SO much money with a capsule wardrobe. Not only do you get months and years wear out of the same items, you also only shop once per season. Eliminating impulse buying, and making carefully considered purchases will save you a lot of cash in the long run.

Saving time.

Getting dressed in the morning is easy peasy with a capsule wardrobe. It takes me just a couple of minutes to think about how smart or casual I need to dress for my day, what the weather’s like and what I fancy pairing together. Done!

It’s also much easier to have ‘go to’ outfits with a capsule wardrobe, as you learn your favourite pairings and can make a mental note of them. So if you’re really strapped for time, you can grab those clothes and throw them on without worrying they’re going to look mismatched.

Space and simplicity.

Choosing an outfit is a fun, but also calm and straight forward task for me. I know some people are reading this like, “are you KIDDING?!

I’ve been there. For many, choosing an outfit is not only a dreaded task, it’s also stressful and creates a TON of mess in their room. Having a paired down collection means I can see everything at a glance, and the decision between just a few items in each category is simple and easy to make.

Not only that, it’s much easier to keep everything tidy and organised, as there’s less to fold and put away.

Learning about your personal style.

You probably have a wardrobe full of clothes that you wore years ago, still have tags on them or were hand me downs from a friend or family member. All these clothes you never wear distract you from your personal style.

Most people already have a capsule wardrobe…they just don’t know it! Most of us wear the same favourite items, day in day out. And when you strip everything back to JUST those items, you learn so much about your personal style and how it’s evolved over the years.

I would never describe myself as stylish. I’m NOT a cool fashion blogger and you won’t catch me sharing my #OOTD on Insta, but I do know my personal style. I know what flatters my shape, I know what colour palette I like, and I know exactly what I want in my wardrobe for the next season. I don’t get confused or side tracked by trends or ‘fast fashion’ (cheap items I buy impulsively) because my clothes are all carefully selected to fit into my wardrobe’s little family – everything goes together, everything looks good.

It’s also fun to see your style evolve with the seasons – sometimes I’ll look back at items I’ve not worn as much, and realise why I don’t like them anymore. With a capsule wardrobe, it’s so easy to tweak and adjust your clothes to suit your style and ‘mood’ for that season.

Do you have a capsule wardrobe? Are you inspired to create one? I hope this post gave you the motivation to do so if you were thinking about it! Let me know if you have any other capsule wardrobe related questions in the comments.

Love, Kat x
